My standard vehicle has a theoretical top speed of 208km / h – as per technical specifications. The tyres are however specified as a W speed rating – i.e. 270 km/h. I want to replace all tyres with a softer compound to reduce noise levels, but can only get a V rated i.e 240 km/h tyre in the alternate brand. Will my vehicle still be fully insured in the event of a MVA with V rated tyres?

The simple and short answer – yes you will be covered. Your top speed is below the replacement tyres rating.

The longer answer – As long as the tyres are above the minimum legal limit as per the road traffic act, you will not have any problems in the event of an accident or incident. However we would like to advise you that should you have a MVA at that excessive speeds, your claim may be rejected on due care, irrevalant of the rating or make of the tyres.
