Patrick Mbalati: Service Hero

Published on: 12 September 2016

We’ve chosen Patrick Mbalati as September’s Service Hero – one of the members of our 24/7 MiHelp Emergency Assistance team.

Patrick, also known as Bra Pat, tells us more about himself:

1. Which department do you represent and what role do you play in keeping our clients happy?

I work within the MiHelp Battalion [ed: the MiHelp Emergency Assistance team], and I play the role of MiHelp advisor. On a daily basis, we assist clients in unfortunate situations. For example, clients who are stuck on the side of the road as a result of mechanical problems, flat batteries, flat tyres, vehicles damaged by accidents which aren’t driveable, and so on. These situations often happen during the night and in isolated areas. Our team members need to be vigilant, as well as solution-orientated, because we are constantly dealing with emergency cases which involve the lives of people. The response time in this regard must be reasonable.

2. What’s your service secret?

Emotional intelligence.

3. Why do you think it’s so important to get the job done the first time around?

By not doing things right the first time, you will not only inconvenience yourself (and look bad in the eyes of almost everyone), but you will greatly inconvenience and severely disrupt the lives of others as well.

4. Tell us about your 5-year plan:

My ambition is to complete my LLB degree in record time, and this requires a huge amount of sacrifice, commitment and hard work. Over the years, I have learnt to balance work, family and my studies. Upon completion of the latter, I want to serve as a legal advisor.
