Ways to keep your information accessible for emergency situations

Over the last few weeks, we’ve shared various tips relating to an accident scene. To end off this series, courtesy of Arrive Alive, we have tips on how to make your medical and other personal information easily accessible in the event of an accident where you are unable to give it yourself for any reason – or any other medical emergency.

There are different ways to make your information easily accessible in times of emergencies - here are some options to start you off:

  • Keep all your important details in your handbag, purse or wallet. This would be things like your ID, your medical aid card and any important medical information (allergies, chronic conditions and medication, etc.) to be noted when treating you. Where possible, keep copies in the cubbyhole of your car to always have with you when travelling.
  • If you don’t already have one and are able to, get yourself a wrist band or medical alert bracelet that will have a unique number, contact information and important medical information for emergencies.
  • Store a few numbers on your phone with “ICE” (in case of emergencies) added to the name so that those wanting to assist you know who to contact during an emergency.
  • Get a key holder with your medical details and/or your driver’s licence to keep on your car keys – and thus close to you.
  • Get medical stickers and place these on your car where they will be clearly visible and helpful in times of emergencies.
  • Get an emergency app on your mobile device that will direct paramedics to services who may have your contact details.

There are many ways in which you can make your information available and easily accessible during an emergency, as you can see from the above list. By having this information readily available, paramedics will be able to treat you quickly and efficiently.

Just remember that, in the event of an accident, you may not always be able to call for help – your phone may have been damaged in the accident, you could be injured or unconscious. With Emergency Alert, MiWay gives you peace of mind that, no matter what happens, help will be at hand with our 24/7 emergency assistance.
