MiWay Hosts Second Actuarial Hackathon

MiWay Insurance will host our second invitation-only Actuarial Hackathon in April 2019 where graduate students’ modelling skills, resourcefulness and perseverance will be put to the test.

Who is it for?

Honours and final year students studying Actuarial Science, Data Science and other relevant fields can enter the qualifying round. Note that entrants must be available for recruitment to start working in 2020. In order to participate in the Hackathon, entrants will be invited by MiWay and given further details.

What is it?

The Hackathon is a 24-hour modelling marathon where participants will be given a past dataset to build a model and predict a future outcome. The winner will be the candidate with the model MiWay panel judges deem to be the best, including the difference between actual and expected and other relevant metrics. The challenge is designed so that participants only need Microsoft Excel skills to build a model, however, using other programming languages would be advantageous.

The prizes are as follows:

  • 1st place - R20 000 in cash
  • 2nd place - R5 000 in cash
  • 3rd place - R3 000 in cash

The Hackathon will be hosted at MiWay’s head offices in Centurion.
