9 medical situations your insurer can assist with

Life happens, and when it does you can find yourself in an overwhelming situation that requires critical thinking and urgent attention. With medical emergencies, even the slightest bit of help can bring about the greatest relief.

Your insurer may be able to help you with more than just getting your car to safe storage and repair.

1. Medical Advice and Information Hotline
   Medical personnel, including paramedics, nurses and doctors, are available 24 hours a day to provide general medical information and advice. However, it is important to note that a telephonic conversation does not permit an accurate diagnosis – it is simply advisory!
2. Emergency Medical Advice and Assistance Hotline
   In addition to the general medical advice service, one call to 08 600 767 64 notifies the MiHelp medical operators who will guide you through a medical crisis situation, provide you with emergency advice and organise for you to receive the support you need. The service includes: rape, family and domestic abuse, trauma, child abuse, bereavement, HIV, suicide and poison hotline.
3. Emergency Medical Response to the scene of a Medical Emergency
   Depending on what your emergency needs are and what the area permits, an appropriate road and/or air response will be undertaken, sending an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle or a helicopter immediately to the scene of the medical emergency where appropriate life-saving support will be provided.
4. Medical Transportation and repatriation
   Should you find yourself in a medical situation that requires you to be hospitalised, medical transportation under the correct supervision will be arranged for you according to your needs. Should you be hospitalised outside of your hometown – more than 100kms from your home – you can get assistance in moving you closer to home.
5. Inter-Hospital Transfer
   Some medical situations require the service and attention of a doctor in another region, should you find yourself in this situation, you will be transported by road or air ambulance - whichever is most medically appropriate.
6. Escorted Return of Minors
   In the event of your minor children being stranded as a result of your hospitalisation, arrangements will be made for their transportation, under supervision where necessary, into the care of a trusted person.
7. In-Hospital Medical Monitoring
   Your medical condition will be monitored for the duration of your stay and should you require it, a nominated loved one will be kept up to date with your progress.
8. Compassionate Visit
   Being hospitalised can get lonely; should you be hospitalised outside your hometown for more than 5 days, arrangements will be made for your loved ones to visit you.
9. Repatriation of Mortal Remains
   In the unfortunate event of your death outside your hometown – more than 100km from your place of residence – your loved ones will be assisted in transporting your mortal remains to your hometown.
