Fake links can look incredibly real and can lead you to the wrong place if you don’t know what to look out for. A little caution can help keep your info secure. Here’s how to spot an unsafe link.

Phishing is when you’re contacted unexpectedly and asked to provide personal info. All it takes is a tap for hackers to take over your machine or account. Here’s how to spot a fake message.

We protect your personal data on our online platform through your ID, username, password and a one-time password (OTP). We send notifications to your phone or email address when you need to sign in, recover your username or reset your password.
  • Here’s how to keep your email account and passwords safe

  • Secure your email account as a priority - cybercriminals usually start here because it’s the main gateway to all your other online accounts

  • Use multi-factor authentication (MFA). It combines your password with an extra security layer, like a code sent to your phone. We recommend authenticator apps by Google and Microsoft

  • Use a password manager to generate long, unique passwords for all your online accounts while you only need to remember one strong password

  • Use a strong, long password unrelated to any of your personal details, but that you can remember. Try using a song you love, like I miss the rains down in Africa. Shorten it to ImtrdiA. Add a special character (ImtrdiA:-D), and then a number you can recall (1995ImtrdiA:-D)

  • Never share your passwords, especially with anyone who asks for it, whether in person or on the web (Miway will never ask you for your username or password)

  • Don’t use the same password across multiple sites – cybercriminals can then access any site you’re using

  • Keep your phone safe and out of sight, and don’t share it with anyone

  • Keep your email address and mobile number up to date on Miway’s Self-service portal

Need some answers?

Mihelp is Miway’s 24/7 emergency service that helps you with sudden unexpected emergencies at home or on the road. It’s help with everything from towing to a tyre change and tree-felling, from a burst geyser to a battery jumpstart to a beekeeper who’ll relocate bees, for lost or left-behind house and car keys, or in a medical emergency. It’s a free service we offer if you have comprehensive car, home or home contents insurance with us, or if you have Miway business insurance.

We make it easy for you, with multiple ways to reach us and get the right help. And to make sure you get help even when you’re not able to make that call, our Emergency alert feature will detect if your car’s been in an accident - and we’ll dispatch a team right away if we can’t reach you!

You can also access Mihelp via the Miway App, WhatsApp or call us on 0860 07 67 64.

Sorry, we don’t. But you do get a cover limit of R4 000 (for roadside help) and R2 000 (for help at home), or a maximum of 3 incidents each year - however, the cost of materials, parts and extra labour are not covered. And if you go above these yearly limits, you’ll still get the services, but the costs will have to be covered by you.

You can expect a 24/7 emergency response in all major metros, sub-metros and selected outlying areas, from dedicated teams who know what they’re doing. You also get medical care in an emergency – we’ll bring your kids home safely if you’re hospitalised, monitor your condition when you’re in a hospital outside your hometown, or rush out to the scene if we can’t reach you
