Hosting? Get your home guest-ready in no time!

If you consider yourself the “host with the most,” then chances are high that all your friends flock to your house whenever they feel ready for a party. Greg’s birthday party? Your house. Tebogo’s farewell? Yip, you’ll be asked to host again!

If you're anything like us, you probably find yourself running around like crazy trying to get everything looking perfect, from your house to your snacks.  But if you have less than an hour and you’re figuring out how to just get your house ready, then read on! 

The unwritten rule is to pay attention to the areas that will be used frequently...

1. Ensure there’s an area in your kitchen you can use to prepare any food at the last-minute.
2. Make space in your fridge for dessert you’ve just prepared (or bought) by freezing leftover food or removing expired products or meals. Place any large containers, such as yoghurt, milk cartons and any other items you won’t need for the day at the back of the refrigerator so that there is enough space for the party’s food and drinks.
3. Remove any dirty dishes that may be scattered around the house and if you have a dishwasher, pack it neatly away for later.  If you don’t, get help from a family member or friend to wash the dishes and pack them away where they belong.

A sparkling restroom will show that you are attentive to cleanliness and your guests’ comfort.

• Make your taps and mirrors shine and sparkle by giving them a quick wipe before your guests arrive.
• Clean the toilet bowls with a toilet cleaner and brush.
• Make sure the floors are clean!
• Remove any unnecessary clutter that may be on the countertops  – it’s totally acceptable to hide them in your bedroom cupboard just for today!
• Make sure there is enough hand or liquid soap available and put clean hand towels in the bathroom.
• Stack a few extra toilet rolls neatly in the restroom. 

• Fluff up the pillows on the couch.
• Neatly fold throws and remove unnecessary accessories out of sight.
• Arrange books and stacks of magazines neatly.
• Create a place where your guests can put their personal belongings, like coats,  and handbags so that these don’t add unnecessary clutter in your house.
• Light scented candles. The aroma of a scented candle that has been lit, permeating the air is flattering, and will certainly add a lovely ambience. Add a few fresh flowers too, if you like. They really brighten a room!

Now, host, it’s time for you to get ready and welcome your guests into your clean and beautiful home. Make sure you have comprehensive home and contents insurance so that you can safely entertain your guests and everyone will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy your party (there’s only the cleaning up afterwards – but that’s another story)!
