Whether you are dealing with a sulky teenager who purposely locked the front door while you were outside hanging up the washing, and now sits inside with his / her earphones strategically in place
The first step would be to attempt to communicate with your child and to either convince him or her to unlock the door (bribery is completely acceptable in this situation!) or, if he / she is quite young and has locked you out accidentally, talk him / her through the process of unlocking the door, or handing you the key through a window, if possible.
If communication is not possible, or if your teen still refuses to let you in, the next course of action would be to subtly investigate the perimeter of your home. Check for any other entrances that may have been left open or unlocked, including any large, open windows.
If these methods have proved unsuccessful, you might need to make a call to a locksmith for assistance. Or, better yet, threaten to call Dad!
