Calling all data wizards, number ninjas, and actuarial masterminds! The Miway invitation-only Actuarial Hackathon is back, and this is your chance to prove that your models don’t just predict the future—they shape it.

For one intense, mind-bending week, you’ll dive into a past dataset, build a predictive model, and craft the ultimate pricing strategy for insurance clients. But wait—there’s more! You’ll also get a sneak peek into Miway’s hybrid work culture and daily check-ins with real-life actuarial gurus who will guide you on this quest.

Who Can Enter & How?

Are you a final-year student, Honours student, or recent graduate in Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a related field? If yes, then this challenge has your name on it!

Deadline: Entries open 05 March 2026 and close 16 May 2026

Heads-up! Solving the puzzle doesn’t guarantee an invitation. Miway’s actuaries will evaluate entries and select candidates based on your solution, approach, and CV.

How Will It Work?

29 June 2026 – 03 July 2026

Monday – Thursday:

Work remotely or at our office, building your model from 08h00 to 17h00.
Daily check-ins with Miway’s actuarial mentors to keep you on track.
Limited office space available for in-person collaboration. There will be a hybrid system. Participants who opt to work from home need to ensure they have access to a computer and a stable internet connection. Miway will not be responsible for any connection issues or an individual not being able to compete or be selected if connection issues arise.

Friday (In-Office Day!):

Come to Miway’s Head Office for a team networking session.
Final presentations & judging.
Participants who participate in the Hackathon from outside Gauteng can still join the presentation session virtually.
Prize-giving ceremony + celebratory lunch/dinner.
At 17h00, the 2026 Miway Actuarial Hackathon Champion will be crowned. Will it be you?

A Few Important Rules & Fine Print…in short, the terms and conditions

Participation is open to Final-year, Honours students and recent graduates in Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a related field (graduating in 2026 and available to work in 2027). Applicants with past employment in short term insurance pricing will not be eligible to participate to enable a fair playing field of competitors.
Invitation-only event—puzzle completion does not equal automatic entry. Miway will, in its sole discretion, consider various factors, including the solution to the entry puzzle, approach and Curriculum Vitae for each entry, before determining which participants will be shortlisted as finalists in the Hackathon.
All models built during the hackathon will become Miway’s intellectual property.
Participants will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement to indicate that no data or computer programs may be sent and/or transferred outside of Miway’s domain.
Participants from previous Miway Hackathon events are not allowed to compete again.
Miway may, at its discretion and without notice, change or modify these terms and conditions specific to this competition without giving a reason to discontinue, modify or adapt the competition for reasons of its own without any obligation to compensate any damages on behalf of the participant. Any changes or adaptations within the competition will be made public in an appropriate manner (e.g., via its website).
Miway is in no way responsible for any losses or damages arising from participation in this competition or for any technical malfunctions, failures, or delays that may arise during the campaign or the selection of the winner or receipt of the prize.
