Imke is the youngest of our four featured entrepreneurs, at only 11-years old. Her first book, The Mouse Hole, is available on Kindle and in online stores. She says that writing a book was one of her New Year’s resolutions and she credits her supportive parents with constantly challenging her and her siblings to think outside of the box.
Ingrid Moruane started her own business, Ing Management in 2015. Now 24, Ingrid is moving out of her home offices into premises in Johannesburg’s trendy Melrose Arch. Growing from strength to strength, Ing Management provides non-core services to government entities or corporates like event management, team-building events, catering, stationery and even office furniture.
Sheldon was raised to work for whatever he wanted in life. As a youngster, he would save his pocket money to buy sweets to sell at school and also refurbished items to resell. Today, 24-year old Sheldon is the proud owner of a woodworking business as well as the Deep Roots Night Market in Pretoria. Although he found start-up capital a major challenge, his solution was to take a part-time job that gave him some seed money and spare time. The woodworking, which began as a hobby, also provided some initial funding.
Zweli is a great example of somebody who saw entrepreneurship as a way to make lemonade out of the lemons that life gave him. After losing his job, he decided to set up his own business making promotional videos and producing music – something almost unheard of in the area that he lives.
What all four of the above inspiring young people agree on is the need for entrepreneurs to start young, and to believe in themselves, no matter what anybody says.
